Getting My Life Together

I've used this phrase a lot over the past two years. The slang equivalent of the statement "getting your priorities in order," this phrase has become almost a mantra of sorts to my friend group. When someone did not feel so hot from a night of having too much fun, we would frequently tell them, "You need to get your life together." After a day of "blobbing" into the couch, never leaving the comfort of my pajamas, fuzzy pink slippers, and two-day unwashed hair, my first thought that shakes me back into reality is, "You need to get your life together."
Although this phrase was usually meant as a joke, there have been many times over the past couple of years when I felt like I really should do something to get my life together. After going to graduate school and not having it work out quite like I planned, struggling to make payments on my $20,000 loan from one year of graduate school (don't even get me started! haha), and being at a job that I absolutely hated and feeling like I had no control over my situation, I had to do some reevaluating.
Step 1: Being Completely Honest With Myself
Sometimes life just, for lack of a better word, sucks. You don't always get the degree/job (etc.) that you planned for. However, you cannot blame your problems on your circumstances. I had to realize that maybe I did not do all that I should have done. I also had to realize, maybe that was not God's plan in the first place. Maybe, out of my own selfish desires, I pursued a career/lifestyle that He never meant for me to be a part of. Although, I wish He would have told me $20,000 ahead of time that PT school was not meant for me, there was a reason for that, too. Possibly the lasting friendships I made in that one year.
Step 2: Looking for a Paycheck
I had an awesome first job after I left PT school. I loved my boss and we became really great friends. She knew my situation and gave me a job when I needed it most. That job also taught me that I had a passion for a field that I had never considered before, and that was in retail. I was not able to stay at that wonderful job for very long because I was only able to work part time there. And an opportunity opened up in the PT field that I could not refuse. When I got to this job, however, I realized that I did not love it as much as I thought I would. There were things about it that I did enjoy and I was good at the job, but my passions had changed. And I feel that God led me back to this place to close that door for me. I honestly believe that He let me have that job just to show me that He had a much better plan for me. Que in, my current bosses. I was offered a job by my current bosses and I truly love them and my job. Although it is not in retail, they have allowed me to use my own money to bring in some things that I thought might sell well in their establishment.
Step 3: Gaining Support
I have an incredible support system. My friends and family are without a doubt the best! This especially includes my parents. Once they knew I was serious about making/selling wreaths, they were all in! My Mom went on a shopping spree to help me buy supplies. And my Dad built these incredible "screen doors" for me to hang my wreaths on at work! I honestly don't know where I would be without their love and support. I can never thank them enough for all that they've done for me.

Step 4: Pursuing my Passions
For the first time in a long time, I truly feel like I am starting to get my life together. I am in no way an expert and I still do not (and probably will not ever) have my life completely together! Ha! But at least I am trying! :) Now that I've bored you to tears with my life story, I will show you what I've been working on the last three weeks. Hope you enjoy these creations!

Confessions

Wow. Has it really been almost a whole year since I posted anything on my blog?? I had no idea I'd be so bad at this! Ha!

Life Lately:

Life has been busy as of late. I have changed jobs again since the last time I was on here. I am now a Pharmacy Technician at The Medicine Chest in my hometown, and I love where I work! My coworkers are great and my boss and his wife are AMAZING! :) Mrs. Kate (my boss' wife) is allowing me to do some things with our gift section inside the pharmacy, which is the main reason I wanted to get back to my blog. You all know that one of my goals in life is to own a boutique/gift shop one day. And I have saved up a little money to start working towards that dream.

Making Changes:

The first changes I am making are to my blog. Did you notice the name change? I have decided to start calling my blog by the URL name. I like the way that it sounds better and I think it fits my personality. :) Also, I vow to start blogging again. I am not promising daily posts or even weekly posts. Hopefully, I will make at least one post a week, but if not, at least once a month. The third change I am making to my blog is to change the theme of my blog from a primarily fashion blog, to a lifestyle blog. I will, of course, still be posting outfits and clothes that I love, but there are so many other things that I want to include you in on! So I will also be posting things that happen in my life, which brings me to my next point.
I am going to be making and selling wreaths! I will start by selling them out of The Medicine Chest gift section (yep, my bosses are the best!) and eventually, once I get enough made, I will start selling them off of my blog Instagram account (sass_of_the_south) and off of a Facebook page by the same name that I will be creating. At some point, if it really takes off, I might start selling them from Etsy. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves!! I am just now getting started and I've only made a few so far. They will be going up in The Medicine Chest tomorrow and I cannot wait!! I shared a post with you last year about two wreaths I had made as gifts (see here). I really enjoyed making them and I decided that I would use my talents to start trying to build up some extra money to work towards my dreams!

Leaps and Bounds:

So I am taking this leap of faith and hoping that you will enjoy this new adventure with me! Love you all!

Sister Lovin'

Dress: Gift; Vest: Forever 21; Booties: Shoe Station

Hello everyone!

Today is all about my sister. She wore this outfit last weekend while we were in Birmingham and I was absolutely IN LOVE with it! She is one of my own fashion inspirations, and I think you'd probably feel the same if you met her!

This dress was a gift to her from our friend Felicia (bottom picture in the center). The dress was cute alone, but when she paired it with this denim vest, the outfit reached a whole new level! I never would have thought that they would have looked so good together, but she pulls it off amazingly! Outfit lesson of the day: lace + denim works!

Sunday Best

Dress & Belt- Charlotte Russe; Shoes- Jessica Simpson; Tights- Target

Hello Loves!

Ok I realize this is very late, but this outfit is from Sunday! I absolutely love this dress and for the winter weather, pairing it with tights is a must! These tights are solid black but have a chevron pattern to them, which adds interest to the outfit. I paired the outfit with these Jessica Simpson Mary Janes and a gold chain necklace to finish it off. What do you think about this outfit? Post your comments below! :)

Showing My Crafty Side

Hello everyone!

Today on the blog I'm revealing a totally different side of me... My crafty side! There is nothing more relaxing and therapeutic to me than being crafty. And recently, with a little inspiration from Pinterest, I've started making wreaths! The first wreath pictured is a wreath I made for my friend Jill (pictured in my last post). She is having a baby girl named Blair and this wreath is for her hospital door and for her room later! :) I loved the vintage-inspired flowers in the wreath!

This next wreath is one I made for my boyfriend's mom for Christmas. I love the whimsical swirls in this wreath!

All supplies for both wreaths came from Hobby Lobby. And there is no wrong or right way to do a wreath! I actually did both of these a little differently! But I think the baby girl's wreath turned out a little better. I didn't think about doing a tutorial for either wreath but I may do that for the next one! In the meantime, there are thousands of tutorials on Pinterest! You can follow me, Whitney Foreman, and see some of the tutorials I've pinned under the Cutsie Crafts board!

Baby Shower Fun

Top: B Boutique; Scarf: not sure??; Printed leggings: Lotus Boutique; Boots: Shoe Station

Hello loves!

Today's outfit is from a baby shower that my sister (in the very fashionable dress and fur vest outfit :) )  and I attended yesterday for my sweet friend, Jill. (Isn't she the cutest thing??) She is having a precious little girl and we can't wait to meet her! :)

You all know that I am IN LOVE with this printed leggings trend. And this outfit is so comfortable! (But, really, what leggings aren't?) I wore it for most of the day and never once felt the need to change clothes. You could also pair this outfit with a long necklace and booties if that is more your style (see my Printed Leggings post from a couple of weeks ago). Also, don't be afraid of printed leggings! Although my top is somewhat short for some people's taste, you could also pair it with a longer tunic that is more loose fitting and still get the same stylish effect! I suggest this look for people who have an upside down triangle shape (such as myself) or an hourglass figure. If you still aren't sold on the trend or feel that it doesn't fit your body type (such as a pear shape), there are also printed tunics with fun and bold prints that can be paired with solid colored leggings! Hope this helps!

Confessions & New Year's Resolutions

Hello loves!

Yes I know, I have been reeeeally inconsistent lately with my blog! So I feel like I need to apologize to everyone because of this and explain why I haven't been blogging lately.

As of December 2nd, I started a new job! And this job is much different than my old job and I haven't had a lot of time to work on my blog. :( And worst of all, I have to wear uniforms to my new workplace! *Gasp!!* I know, I know, not like me at all! And it puts a real damper on your fashion sense during the week! But this job was a great opportunity that I just couldn't pass up right now.

Now don't think that there was anything wrong with my job at the boutique or that I'm on the outs with my former boss or anything like that. I still love Jilly B. and am still really good friends with the owner! I would send anyone to shop at Jilly B. and will continue to support them with my own shopping!

So now that I have made these confessions and gotten us all caught up to where I am in my life as of now, I am making a commitment, or I guess a New Years Resolution of sorts, to start back working on my blog. I am not promising that I will post as much as I did before but I want to start back posting as much as possible. And I hope you will be patient with me and continue to read my blog even if I don't post as much as I used to!

Sweaters and Boot Socks

Sweater- Copper Key; Pants- Belk; Boots- Old Navy; Boot Socks- Peek-a-Boot

Today I'm trying out my boot socks for the first time. I've had them for a year thanks to my Aunt Stephanie :)! I just haven't had the chance to wear them yet!
So I'm breaking them out on this cold November day and wearing them with my red pants and striped sweater!

Also, my makeup today follows my 5 minute face routine from yesterday's Manageable Monday post! And I added a little eyeliner as suggested under the comment section of that post. Make sure you also read the comment as I forgot to add a couple of suggestions in the original post!

Manageable Mondays: 5 Minute Face

This series is all about how to make those Mondays just a little bit more manageable. I will give little tips and tricks to help you on those Mondays when it seems like you just cannot get it together.

In picture: Covergirl Concealer; Clinique Even Better Liquid Makeup and Loose Powder; elf baked blush; Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara; Eyelash Curler from Walmart

Waking up in a panic because you forgot to set your alarm clock the night before is the worst way to wake up any day. On those days when you only have 5 minutes to get ready, these 5 items will be your life saver! And PLEASE don't think I am any kind of expert on makeup! This is just what I do when I don't have much time!
I always apply concealer under my eyes because I tend to have dark circles. Apply it in an upside down triangle shape under the inner corner of your eye and spread it towards the outer corner under your eye. Spread it with your ring finger because your ring finger gives the least pressure, protecting the fragile skin under your eye. Next, use the even better liquid makeup and apply all over your face. On top, use the loose powder all over making sure you blend both into your hairline and jaw. If it does not blend to the point that it matches the color of your face it is not the right color! Add the blush to the apples of your cheeks and along the top of your cheekbones all the way to the hairline. Last but definitely not least, add mascara! This opens up your eyes so much even if you don't have eyeshadow on! And I ALWAYS curl my eyelashes. I promise it's not as hard as it seems so don't be scared of eyelash curlers, please! Just take the eyelash curler and get as close to the upper lash line as you can and close it. If it feels like it's pinching your eyelids, it's too close. Curling your eyelashes does not hurt. It only takes ab 5 to 10 seconds for it to take effect, and I promise it will make so much more impact! I use Covergirl lash blast volume mascara and it does wonders for my lashes.
Now your face is evenly covered! And adding lipstick would be the icing on the cake for your 5 minute face! This is the lipstick I am currently using, and I think it's perfect to brighten up your face on this manic Monday!

In picture: Maybelline Red Revival

Hope this helps make your Monday a little easier!

Cardigan- Jilly B.; Scarf- Walmart!! (I know!! I'm shocked too!); Jeans- Miss Me; Bracelets- Marley Lilly and Betsy Pittard Designs; Boots- Old Navy

Hello loves!

It is really chilly in Alabama today! And I'm so glad because I finally get to wear this cardigan from Jilly B without burning up! And can you believe this adorable scarf came from Walmart?! Me either! But I absolutely LOVE IT! Also, apparently this chilly weather has gotten me into the Christmas spirit a little early?? I've already brought out the Christmas music and I NEVER do so before at least the week of Thanksgiving! (Hence the title of this post!) Haha :) oh well! Hope everyone has an amazing Thursday!

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited about today's post because I have been nominated for the Liebster Blog Award thanks to Morrell from Morrell's Armoire! This award was created to recognize new blogs who have less than 200 followers. If the nominee chooses to accept the award, they must follow these three simple rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link them back.

Thank you so much Morrell! I'm so honored that you chose to recognize my blog! (And for those of you who have not already checked out her fashion blog, please do! She is amazing and absolutely gorgeous!)

2. Answer the eleven questions that the blogger who nominated you gave.

3. Nominate five - eleven bloggers who have under 200 followers and give them eleven different questions to answer.

Morrell's Questions for Me:

1. Why did you start your blog?

I love to write and read. Writing about something I love (fashion) makes it all the more worthwhile. Also, reading a good blog is like reading a good book. You catch a glimpse of someone's life and the things that interest them the most. For me, it's almost therapeutic.

2. What are you hobbies outside of blogging?

I love to scrapbook and do crafts. I haven't had the time to do it lately, but I love doing anything crafty. I also love to go to the river or beach and spend time on the water. My family has a camp house on the river and most of my favorite summer memories were spent there. Also, cheering on my Alma Mater, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in softball, baseball, and especially football!

3. Describe your style?

Feminine. I love dresses and heels. If I could get away with it, I'd wear them every day.

4. What is your favorite fashion season and why?

Spring is my favorite fashion season. The fabric of the clothing gets lighter and bright colors have made it back to my wardrobe!

5. Are there any movies that inspire your style?

Not that I can really think of. I'm not usually a big movie person.

6. What is one random fact about yourself?

I made up my own recipe for Pecan Pie using two conflicting recipes. My recipe is the best Pecan Pie you will ever put in your mouth! (If I do say so myself! :) )

7. What is the best advice for starting a new blog?

Start researching existing blogs. There are so many out there and they can be found through Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, and many other types of social media! Check out Tumblr and Blogger, also! Find out the types of blogs you like and dislike and decide what you want your blog content to be about. Then just take a leap of faith!

8. What are your favorite places to shop?

I like to shop at Jilly B. (of course! :) ), Apricot Lane, Ellie Crimson, and Private Gallery. I also enjoy places like Charlotte Russe, Charming Charlie's, and Forever 21 because you can get more for your money from there!

9. How do you use a budget for your wardrobe?

My wardrobe budget is very limited these days. And my friends and family will tell you, I am not the best at sticking to a budget! That is one reason I like to shop at stores like Charlotte Russe, Charming Charlie's, and Forever 21. They have stylish clothes but are much more budget friendly than boutiques! When I buy for my wardrobe I usually make a list of what I am looking for and try to stick to that list. And if the item is more of a staple in my closet that I know I will use for a long time, I don't mind paying a little extra for it.

10. What is your favorite piece of clothing you couldn't live without?

I could not live without my Jessica Simpson heels. They are black suede, closed-toed, five inch heels with two buckled straps on them and I LOVE them!! Just ask all my friends! :)

11. What famous person mostly inspires your style?

Jessica Alba inspires my style the most! She always looks so pulled together whether she's wearing jeans and a t-shirt or an evening gown. She knows what works best on her and she isn't afraid to take risks either!

My nominees for the Liebster Blog Award:

1. Felicia from felicia lane
2. Lisa from MY ORDINARY COUNTRY LIFE
3. Aubrey from THE KINCH LIFE
4. Lauren from The Full Time Girl
5. M from beautiful things.

My Questions for the nominees:

1. Why did you want to start a blog?
2. What are your favorite hobbies besides blogging?
3. What are your top 3 favorite blogs? Why?
4. How would you describe your style in three words?
5. Name one random fact about you that most people don't know.
6. Who in your life would you say influenced/influences your style the most?
7. What is your favorite season and why?
8. What would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
9. Since the holidays are just around the corner, what is your favorite Christmas memory?
10. When is your favorite time to blog?
11. What is your favorite piece of clothing you can't live without?

Whit

Weekend Recap

I saw so many old friends and reminisced on so many wonderful memories! And I especially enjoyed getting to spend time with my Felicia Lane! So here are a few pictures from this weekend.
